Poling on the Sepik River - Three days by canoe. This is when I found the 4 faced sculpture and transported it back. The trip began with a 200 + mile motorcycle ride, then an airplane and the canoe trip. We arranged for a plane to pick us up downriver and returned to our motorcycles in Mt. Hagen.

Highlands Man - Bird of Paradise feathers, human hair wig covering similar to a bilum. Body shines because it's covered with grease. Papua New Guinea's famous Goroka Show Sing-Sing. A chance for villages from around the highlands to come and show their stuff. A cross between a Native American Pow-Wow and a county fair.

Papua New Guinea's famous Goroka Show Sing-Sing. A very wealthy man with many pigs as noted byu the line of light sticks hung from his neck. This is a human hair wig with a triangle of the Papua New Guinea national flag peeking up. He has bird of paradise andd other feathers and likely accented with cassowary bones stuck into the fur at the base of the wig. He is wearing bilum like material strung from his bark belt.

The axe shown here was a gift to me to encourage us to be advocates for this village to get a school. The story was told that the axe handle and wrapping was new but the very sharp stone head was used, to kill an enemy. I have this axe displayed on the living room wall.
